Garden Inspiration for DIY Springtime Jewelry

The sun is out, the air is warming, and our gardens are blooming! Spring is a wonderful time of year and feels like a fresh start after a long, dark winter. This season of renewal is a great time to refresh not only our minds but our jewelry designs as well. If you are looking for inspiration, you need not look any further then outside your front door. It's mid-April and beauty abounds in every direction!

Flowers and gardens offer fantastic design inspiration. You can create floral designs using flower beads, add butterflies to your designs (see last week's blog post) or build entire designs and bead patterns based off of Mother Nature's color palette. If you like the idea of using nature as a color palette builder, then find flowers that look good together and match their colors in beads or ribbons. You can also look at the symphony of greens that accent the flowers and create color palettes off of them. Inspiration can be found anywhere if you open your eyes to it. Here are some spring photos to jump start your creativity.

As you start to make your spring-inspired designs, a good jumping off point can be a seed bead color palette. Beadaholique has a lot to choose from, here are a couple of my favorite ones for this season:

After you have a color palette, you can accent it with beads. A perfect choice for garden-inspired beads are Czech glass beads by Raven's Journey. Based in Washington state, this Raven's Journey makes wonderful beads featuring flowers, beads, owls, trees and other nature-inspired designs. Here are some of my favorites!

Lucite flowers are another great choice for garden designs.
