Wise Old Owls Earrings

Conjure up images of dark, mysterious forests with these earrings featuring Vintaj components and Swarovski Crystal accents. Perfect to wear when you're feeling in a woodsy mood.

NOTE: The earring hook used in this project has been discontinued and a slightly different hook has replaced it. The overall look of the earrings will not change much, but the hook will be very slightly larger than that shown in the photo.

Remember to double these instructions to create your matched pair of earrings.

Begin by watching the video: How to Use the Vintaj Relief Block. Use the relief block as demonstrated in the video to highlight your Vintaj natural brass three perched owls pendant link.

On your length of Vintaj natural brass 2mm figaro chain, find a long link a couple of inches from the end. Fold your chain at this link, so that both ends hang from the one long link. With your chain folded like this, measure about 1 7/8" and cut the chain on both sides.

Cut a second length of chain about 1 1/8" long. Use a 4mm, 21 gauge Vintaj natural brass jump ring to attach this length of chain to the center long link in the first length of chain.

Open the loop on a Vintaj natural brass fine French Ear Wire and insert the center long link from your chain. Close the loop.

You should now have three pieces of chain hanging from your ear wire, one shorter than the other two.

Use a jump ring to attach one of the longer pieces of chain to one side of the owl pendant link. Repeat this process to attach the other long piece of chain to the other side of the owl pendant link. Make sure that your pendant link is face up when you attach it.

Insert a 1", 21 gauge vintaj natural brass head pin into a 4mm olivine Swarovski Crystal bicone bead. Create a simple wire loop after the bead.

Open the loop on the head pin and hang the crystal bead from the last link on the shorter piece of chain. Close the loop.

Variations

Use a different style of chain or earring findings, or change the color of crystal beads that you use to customize the look of these earrings.

When substituting in items, pay attention to sizes and styles to make sure all your pieces will fit together.

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
