Glam Rock Earrings
Project E732 [Skill Level: Intermediate] Designer: Julie Bean
These earrings are both elegant and glamorous as well as edgy rock-and-roll. The hematite flat back rhinestones look like pointed studs and the black faceted beads add a touch of drama to the design.

Instructions:
- We are going to construct the earring first so that we have an "object" to hold onto when we glue on our flat back rhinestones.
-
Open a gunmetal plated jump ring and link it through the hole in the top of your acrylic teardrop pendant bead. Close the jump ring.
-
Place onto a gunmetal eye pin 1 acrylic flat octagon faceted bead. Create a simple wire loop after the bead and cut off excess wire with flush cutters.
-
Open one of the simple wire loops (the same way you would open a jump ring) on the side of the octagon bead and attach it to the jump ring connected to your pendant bead from step 2. Close the loop.
-
Open the loop at the base of your earring hook and attach it to the other simple loop on the side of the octagon bead. Close the loop.
-
Time to glue on the flatback rhinestones! Please look closely at the photo for where you will be placing your hematite flatbacks. Your tube of GS Hypo Cement has a very fine applicator tip. Squeeze a little bit of glue out of the bottle and place 5 small dots in a line on the side of your pendant bead. Use your magical pick to pick up up a rhinestone and place it into a glue dot, repeat this with 4 more rhinestones set into the other 4 glue dots. For this design I made a total of 6 of these "rows of 5 rhinestones" around the pendant bead and then placed a single rhinestone bead between the rows (see picture). Work carefully and slowly to create your design. For the top octagon bead, please copy the design shown in the picture (it uses 7 rhinestones).
-
Repeat all the instructions above to make your second earring.

Variations
When substituting in items, pay attention to sizes and styles to make sure all your pieces will fit together.
Keywords: SWAROVSKI, black tie, evening, punk
Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
