Shades of Blue Necklace

Project N105
Designer: Andrea Morici

Delicate lampwork hand blown glass beads and beautiful Swarovski crystals seem to virtually float between the gossamer-like strands of blue and ivory silk.

NOTE: This project includes one or more items that are no longer available, despite our best efforts. We have kept this project on the site for you to use as a template or inspiration for your own creations.

What You'll Need

Instructions:

  1. Start by cutting a 2 1/2 ft piece of the Fireline braided beading thread and thread it through a beading needle. Pull the thread through the needle until it is in the middle of the thread.

  2. Fold the thread in half and secure the ends with a Bead Stopper.

  3. On to the needle thread the following:
    • a lampwork drop bead, with the narrow side facing the point of the needle
    • a 13mm round cobalt blue and silver foil lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 20mm round lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 24mm lampwork tube bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 25mm oval lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 20mm round lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 25mm oval lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 24mm lampwork tube bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 20mm round lampwork bead
    • a Swarovski crystal
    • a 13mm round cobalt blue and silver foil lampwork bead
    • and a lampwork drop bead, with the wide end facing the point of the needle.

  4. Remove the Bead Stopper, but be careful not to spill any of the beads!

  5. To either end of the thread add a crimp bead, but do not crimp yet.

  6. Thread either end of the thread through a large closed jump ring and back through the crimp beads and crimp down.

  7. Add a crimp bead cover over the crimp beads and gently close.

  8. Trim off excess thread.

  9. To the magnetic clasp add a small open jump ring to either side.

  10. To each small open jump ring, add a large closed jump ring.

  11. Pair both ivory fairy ribbons with both pieces of royal blue silk string.

  12. Thread both of these pairings through the large closed jump rings on either end of the lampwork and crystal bead strand.

  13. Fold in half so that you now have four pieces of silk on each side, two blue and two ivory (about 20" long)

  14. Thread both sides (all four strands) through the large closed jump rings on either side of the magnetic clasp.

  15. Tie a knot with all four strands around either large closed jump ring, but only pull the end half way through, leaving a loop roughly two inches long. This should look like one half of a bow on either side of the clasp.
