In Bloom Necklace is an Incredible Floral Jewellers Project | Beadaholique

What You'll Need

Instructions:

  1. The total length of this necklace is roughly twenty inches long, including clasp, but the woven tube is seventeen inches long. To create the tube part of this necklace, first cut about twelve feet of the olive green K.O. thread (you will need to add thread partway through). Run the thread through your thread conditioner several times, and thread it through a needle of your choosing.

  2. About eight inches away from the end of your thread, attach a bead stopper or a piece of tape. Onto your needle, thread nine of the DB-MIX03 11/0 green mix Delica seed beads in a variety of shades.

  3. Pass through all of the beads again, and pull tight to form a circle.

  4. Pass through the last bead once more and thread a bead. Skipping a bead, thread your needle through the next bead in the circle.

  5. Add another Delica, skip a bead, and thread your needle through the next bead in the circle.

  6. Repeat this pattern, moving up the tube, until you reach seventeen inches. Remember, part of the way through weaving the tube you will have to add to your working thread. To do this, you must wait until there is only about eight inches of working thread left. Tie an overhand knot to the thread nearest to your needle between two beads. Weave the remainder of the thread through the rest of your work for a couple of inches and trim off excess with a sharp pair of scissors. Onto your needle, thread another eight to ten feet of waxed thread. Starting a couple of inches away from where you need to be, tie another overhand knot between two beads and weave your thread through the beads until you get to where you left off with your tube.

  7. Stop weaving when you have reached seventeen inches, or your desired length. Leave a generous tail of thread (approximately eight inches long to match the opposite end).

  8. For the next part, adding the tendrils, flowers, and leaves, you may arrange them in whatever way you would like. You may add more or less elements, depending on the look that you prefer. The most important part, no matter what design you choose, is to lay out your design against the tube before you start weaving.

  9. When you are ready to begin weaving the flowers and leaves onto the tube, thread your needle with another eight to ten feet of waxed K.O.

  10. Weave your thread into the beads near the center of the tube.

  11. Beginning in the very center of the tube, measure three beads to the right of a central bead. Weave your thread through the beads until your needle comes out through this bead, three beads to the right of center.

  12. String eleven of the DB-MIX03 11/0 green mix Delica seed beads in a variety of shades, followed by a large, light blue lucite focal flower (BCP-4202), a five-pointed white lucite flower (BCP-4204), a small peach lucite flower (BCP-4258), a 6/0 sunshine yellow Czech seed bead (BCS-6540), and a matte tangerine seed bead from the L.A. Sunset Orange Czech 11/0 seed bead mix (BCS-1594).

  13. Thread back through the yellow seed bead, the peach flower, the white flower, and the large light blue flower. String eleven more of the DB-MIX03 11/0 green mix Delica seed beads in a variety of shades, and weave back into the tube at the bead that is three beads to the left of the central bead. Your pendant is now hanging from two different points, just left and right of center. This makes it more stable and less likely to flip over.

  14. The following instructions will be for weaving only one side of the necklace, the opposite side will be just a mirror image of the first. *VERY IMPORTANT* The woven tube is, by nature, twisted. In order for your flowers and leaves to hang straight, you must compensate for the twist in the tube by moving up or down a row when you are adding your flowers, leaves, and tendrils. Just keep the tube straight as you are working and periodically hold your work up to make sure that everything is hanging correctly.

  15. Moving left, weave your thread four beads away from the left "arm" of the pendant. String twenty-three of the mixed green Delicas (DB-MIX03), a dark pink 12mm glass flower (BCP-9234), a light purple "ghost" 9mm glass flower (BCP-9243), a bright yellow Delica (DBM-0721), and a matte tangerine seed bead from the L.A. Sunset Orange Czech 11/0 seed bead mix (BCS-1594).

  16. Pass your thread back through the bright yellow seed bead, both of the glass flowers and seven of the green mix beads.

  17. String three green mix seed beads, passing back through the first two and up the "stem" of your flower. This is your first "leaf".

  18. Pass your thread up the stem four more beads, and add another "leaf", this time making it four beads long.

  19. Pass back up through the stem eight beads, and create another leaf with three beads.

  20. Once again, pass back up through the stem and back into your tube weaving. From here, whenever we refer to making a delica leaf, refer to the instructions from the three steps previous to this one.

  21. Weave over to the left, two beads away from your last flower, and string three of the green mix seed beads, a large light green lucite leaf (BCP-4316), and another single green seed bead. Pass your thread back through the lucite leaf and the stem, and back into your tube weaving.

  22. Weave over to the left of the leaf, four beads away from it. String seven of the 11/0 lime green, foil lined Czech seed beads (BCS-1611), a glass olivine vitrail leaf (BCP-9121), a 9mm glass aqua quartz vitrail flower (BCP-9260), a tiny turquoise glass flower spacer (BCP-9272), and a bright yellow Delica (DBM-0721).Pass back through the two flowers, the glass leaf, and the seven seed beads and back into your weaving.

  23. Weave over to the left, four beads away from your last flower, and string two of the mixed green delicas (DB-MIX03), a 6/0 olive green seed bead (BCS-6644), a light blue five-pointed lucite flower (BCP-4207), a violet-shaped Siam red lucite flower (BCP-4233), and a bright yellow delica (DBM-0721). Pass back through the two lucite flowers and the three seed beads and back into your weaving.

  24. Weave over to the left, four beads away from your last flower, and string twenty-one of the mixed green delicas (DB-MIX03). Add a clear olivine leaf (BCP-9120), and pass back up through the stem, adding seed bead leaves (we added three to this stem).

  25. Weave over to the left, three beads away from your last stem, and add four mixed green delicas (DB-MIX03), an olive green glass rondelle (BCP-4673), a yellow AB 12mm glass flower (BCP-9217), a baby pink 9mm glass flower (BCP-9230), and a matte tangerine seed bead from the L.A. Sunset Orange Czech 11/0 seed bead mix (BCS-1594). Pass your thread back up throught the flowers and the stem and back into your weaving.

  26. Weave over to the left, four beads away from the last flower, add a "ghost" peridot glass leaf (BCP-9369), and one of the mixed green delicas. Pass back through the leaf and into your weaving.
