Instructions:
- The following instructions are basic guidelines on how to connect the various elements used to create this necklace. Really, this piece is all about exploring on your own how you would like to layer and join all of these amazing components to make your own unique steampunk masterpiece. Begin by cutting two pieces of chain at seven inches long each. Set these aside.
-
Begin laying out all of your pieces in a somewhat triangular bib shape. Be sure to layer wood on metal, metal on wood, contrasting colors, contrasting metals, etc...
-
Create a substructure with the filigree stampings and the Vintaj "fastenables". You can join most of the substructure using jump rings, and you can connect the cogs to one another and to the substructure by using headpins. Always thread a daisy spacer on the headpin first, so that it won't go right through the hole. After threading the chosen gears onto the headpin, and threading that headpin through the substructure, thread another daisy spacer on the back. Cut your headpin to about a half an inch long and, using round nose pliers, curl the end downward creating a spiral until it touches the back of the gears. Flatten the spiral with your chain nosed pliers. You may also use the pieces you have cut off of the headpins as a joining piece. Just create the spiral first, turning it into a headpin, and then follow the previous instructions.
-
Once the "bib" part of your necklace is complete, connect a piece of chain to either end of it using the fancy jump rings.
-
Add another plain brass jump ring to one end of the chain, a plain jump ring and a lobster clasp to the other end of the chain.
-
If you'd like, you may use the extra bit of chain to create draping along the bottom of the bib.

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
