River's Edge Necklace

What You'll Need

Instructions:

  1. Begin by creating the collage toggle clasp that also functions as the pendant. To do this, choose your image from the three pack of Vintaj collage sheets. We chose the image that best fits the size and shape of the pendant, and also matches the color scheme of the necklace. Once you have your image picked out, lay your Patera pendant face down on the image and trace around the outer and inner circles. Using a sharp blade, such as an X-acto, carefully trim out your image.

  2. Now you must seal both sides of your image. You can do this by covering both sides with clear packing tape, but we prefer using a sealant such as Mod Podge. Paint the front of your image with a thin coat of Mod Podge and set aside to dry for about twenty minutes. Once the front is dry, paint a coat of Mod Podge on the back of the image and firmly press it into the Patera pendant setting. Set this aside to dry for another twenty minutes.

  3. To embed the Vintaj natural brass leaf fastenable, you must first cut off the loop and part of the stem with your flush cutters (XTL-5600) so that it fits in the pendant. There is no need to file the edges, since it will be embedded in the resin.

  4. Place the Vintaj natural brass leaf fastenable in the pendant wherever you would like it to be. It is not necessary to glue it down. Slowly and methodically fill the pendant with the UV resin, starting with the edges and working inward. There are a number of things you can do to avoid air bubbles in your pendant, such as not shaking the bottle, and before you fill the pendant squeeze a small amount of the UV resin out onto a napkin first, etc... but sometimes the bubbles are inevitable. If bubbles do form, use a hair dryer on a hot setting or a heat gun to get rid of them.

  5. Carefully transfer your pendant to the UV resin curing light (XTL-1510). If you do not have a UV light, you can place it in a sunny spot. Please note, however, that it will take roughly fifteen minutes for the pendant to dry in the UV resin curing light, and a considerable amount longer to dry in natural light.

  6. While your resin is curing, you may string the body of your necklace. Cut a piece of beading wire that is roughly two feet in length. secure one end with a Bead Stopper (XTL-3000). Onto this piece of wire, thread the following: a 2mm tiger eye, a gold vermeil nugget bead, a 2mm tiger eye, a gold vermeil nugget bead, a 2mm tiger eye, and a gold vermeil nugget bead.

  7. Now thread the following:
    • a bayong wood disc bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a bayong wood disc bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a bayong wood disc bead
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a turquoise nugget bead
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead.

Repeat this stringing pattern two more times. Finish stringing the strand by adding:
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye
    • a gold vermeil nugget bead
    • a 2mm tiger eye

  8. Thread a crimp tube onto the end of the strand, but do not crimp it yet. Thread the end of the strand through a closed jump ring and back through the crimp tube. Pull snug and crimp the tube. Trim off excess wire from this end of the strand.

  9. Remove the Bead Stopper from the other end of the strand and thread on a crimp tube. Do not crimp it yet. Thread the end of the strand through a closed jump ring and back through the crimp tube. Pull snug and crimp the tube. Trim off excess wire from this end of the strand.

  10. Open two of the 6mm open jump rings (LINK). Use one to attach the collage pendant part of the toggle clasp to one end of the necklace. Use the other one to attach the toggle bar to the other end of the necklace. Close both jump rings once more.
