Enchanted Memories Necklace
Project N616 Designer: Julie Bean
Memories are so sweet, even enchanted one might say. This necklace looks like it holds the sands of time
within it's delicate petals. Muted tones of light sea green and crystal golden shadow give the necklace an
heirloom appearance.

Instructions:
- To begin this necklace, take one of your Vintaj brass swirl filigrees, and using your fingers, bend up all 4 of the spiral edged corners. Bend 1/4" from the tip. On one of the corners, bend 1/2" from the tip. These should be gentle bends, not folding the brass onto itself. See photo for reference. Repeat with your second Vintaj brass swirl filigree.
-
Now take your Vintaj 12mm brass bead caps (all 4 of them) and pry the petals back to open up the bead cap, creating a bowl shape.
-
Cut 4 lengths of 24 gauge wire. Onto one wire, place 1 light aqua blue cultured pearl nugget. Slide it to the midway point. Bend the wire on both sides of the pearl so that you now have a slim horseshoe shape with approximately 2 inches of wire on both sides of the pearl. Take one of your filigree bead caps from the previous step and thread both wires through the hole in the middle. Next, thread both wires through the hole in the middle of one of your matte light sea green lucite 6 petal flower. Repeat this entire step with your other 3 cut wires.
-
Take one of your Vintaj brass swirl filigrees from step one and place one of the flowers with wires from the previous step into the filigree, off center, and thread one wire through one filigree open-work hole and the other wire through an adjacent filigree open-work hole. Pull tightly, anchoring the flower to the filigree. Twist both wires together, running their entire length. Now bend the twisted wire and tuck it's end into the filigree so that it comes out the other side, push it all the way through. Repeat this entire step with the other Vintaj brass swirl filigree.
-
Next, take your Vintaj brass passion flower filigree, turn it so that the recessed side is facing up, and anchor two of your wired flowers from step 3 to the filigree the same way you did in the previous step. See the photo for placement.
-
Cut 2 lengths of 24 gauge wire, 4 inches long each. Onto one of the wires, thread:
- 2 aqua blue cultured pearls
- 1 Swarovski 10mm round bead in crystal golden shadow
- 2 more aqua blue cultured pearls
Slide them to the middle so that the Swarovski crystal is centered. Bend the wire in half so that two pearls touch, making a nice loop. Make one twist of the wires. Thread the two wires through adjacent open-work holes in the filigree on one side of the flowers you already anchored. Once pulled through, twist the wires together for their entire length. Then push the twisted wires back through to the other side of the filiigree. Repeat this entire step with your other wire, this time anchoring it to the other side of your flowers.
-
Now that we have our focal points made, we are going to make the rest of our necklace. Begin by cutting your chain into two lengths, 13 links each. You will have some extra links, this is fine. On the end of one of the chain lengths, open the last link the same way you would open a jump ring and attach it to the hook part of your hook and eye clasp. Close the link. On the other chain length, open the end link and attach the eye part of your clasp. Close the link.
-
Cut 3 lengths of wire, 3 inches long each. Take one wire, and create a wrapped wire loop on the end. Thread onto the wire:
- 1 antique brass balloon 4.5mm rondelle bead
- 1 aqua blue cultured pearl
- 1 Swarovski 10mm round bead in crystal golden shadow
- 1 aqua blue cultured pearl
- 1 antique brass balloon 4.5mm rondelle bead
Create a wrapped wire loop at the end and cut off excess wire with flush cutters. Repeat with your other 2 lengths of wire.
-
We are now going to string our necklace together using 4mm brass jump rings. Find one of your chain lengths and your large flower cluster. On the end of the chain that does not have the clasp part, open a jump ring and link it to the end chain link. Before closing the jump ring, attach it to an open-work filigree hole at the tip of your large flower cluster that is anchored to the Vintaj passion flower filigree. See the photo for where this is anchored relating to the flower orientation.
-
Now go to the other side of the passion flower filigree and place a jump ring at the tip of filigree and before closing the filigree, link onto it one of the beaded strands from two steps ago. On the other side of the beaded strand that was just attached, place a jump ring on the end and attach it to one of your smaller flower/filigree clusters. Go to the other side of the flower/filigree cluster and attach another beaded strand the same way using a jump ring. At the end of the just attached beaded strand, use a jump ring to attach a second beaded strand. At the end of this beaded strand, use a jump ring to attach it to your final flower/filigree cluster. On the opposite side of your flower cluster/filigree attach your other chain section using a jump ring.
-
Just a couple final touches and your necklace will be complete! Cut a 3 inch length of 24 gauge wire. Start making a wrapped wire loop but before you do your wrapping, place into the loop the hole at the top of a lucite beech leaf in pale yellow. Finish making your wrapped wire loop. Thread onto the wire:
- 1 pearl
- 1 brass rondelle
- 1 Swarovski crystal
Create a wrapped wire loop at the top and cut off excess wire with flush cutters. Open a jump ring and using it, attach this dangle to the hook part of your clasp.
-
Lay out your necklace in front of you. Open your E6000 adhesive, and using a piece of wire or toothpick, place a dab of E6000 at the base (the part with the hole) of a lucite beech leaf. Carefully insert the leaf between one of your lucite flower petals and brass filigrees of your necklace. See the photo for where these are placed. Glue all your leaves into place at what you feel is a pleasing angle. Let fully dry.
-
May you make many wonderful memories wearing this fetching necklace.

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
