A couple notes to start with: A) If you live in a VERY sunny climate, you can use the sun to cure your Gel du Soleil instead of the UV curing light. It takes longer, but it does work. However, if you live in an overcast area (such as when I lived in Seattle), you will most likely need the UV light. I did some UV resin in Seattle once, and after 5 days of it being in the "Seattle sun", it was still wet to the touch. B) Also, we are using a wood tile which is 1" square, this is slightly larger then a Scrabble tile. If you have a Scrabble tile, feel free to use that.

To begin, choose your image. This can be a photo, a clipping out of a magazine, some handmade paper, a print off your computer, anything you like. We have chosen a mermaid design from the "Bathing Beauties" collage sheet. Unless you have used a computer to EXACTLY size your image to be 1" square, then cut out your image leaving some extra room on all sides except for the top.

Using your finger or a small paint brush, spread an even layer of Nunn Glue along the back side of the image. Line the top of the wood tile up with the top of your image (this is why you did not leave excess room on the top of your image when you cut it out) and center it so that you capture the part of the image you are most interested in. Press into place and use your fingers to smooth out any excess air bubbles. Allow to dry.

Once dry, carefully cut along the edges so that the paper is flush with your wood. Use your fingers or a clean paint brush to apply an even layer of Mod Podge over the top of the image/tile. Let dry.

Squeeze about a dime size amount of resin onto the middle of your tile pendant. Starting from the "glob" of resin in the center, using the tip of your small resin bottle, push the resin towards the edges. Work slowly and carefully, just keep pushing the resin to the edges -the surface tension will keep the resin from going over the edge if you carefully push it. If you need to add more resin, add it to the middle again, do not try to add it to the outer edges. Once happy with your resin, gently place your tile onto a flat piece of paper such as a folded over post-it note or piece of card stock. Use this sheet of paper as a tray to place your tile into the bed of your UV curing light. Let the tile cure under the light for 15 minutes. You can now remove and go onto the next step.

Turn your now fully hardened pendant upside down. Using a toothpick or small piece of wire as an applicator, place a small amount of E6000 on the flat glue-on side of your Aanraku pendant bail. Center on the back side of your tile and press into place. Let dry.

String your ball chain through the bail loop. If you purchased a pre-made ball chain necklace, it will already have the connector clasp on one end. If you purchased ball chain by the foot and a connector clasp separately, cut the ball chain to the desired length and "snap" the connector clasp into place.

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
