The Butterfly Necklace
Project N625 Designer: Julie Bean
The colors of this butterfly are beautifully mesmerizing, fading from deep blue to greenish bronze to
patina. Although this is a really simple necklace to make, it packs a dramatic punch when worn.

Instructions:
- Gilders Paste is a wonderful way of coloring a lot of your jewelry components. For this project, we will just be . There are varying opinions as to if you need to seal the Gilders Paste after it has fully dried for 12 hours. We recommend that you do seal it with a clear matte finish acrylic spray sealer. I found that 3 light coats worked best. You can purchase such an item at art stores and some hardware stores.
-
Begin by cutting off one of the loops on the side of your Vintaj connector ring. Set aside.
-
Dip the tip of your finger into the iris blue Gilders Paste. Rub the blue into the body and middle section of your Vintaj Butterfly filigree. Wipe your finger clean and then dip it into the african bronze color. Apply this color to the mid section of the wings, blending it slightly into the blue. Again, wipe your finger clean and then dip it into the patina color. Gently brush your finger over the "body" mid section of the butterfly, not rubbing it in but just lightly highlighting the raised edges. Also brush your patina colored finger over the butterflies wing tips and the raised details of the Vintaj connector you modified earlier by cutting off the one loop. Let dry for 12 hours and then spray seal.
-
Cut 2 lengths of chain, 8" long each. Open the last link on one chain length the same way you would open a jump ring and attach it to the top tip of the butterfly's wing. Close the link. Do the same on the other side with your other length of chain.
-
Take your hook and open the hoop at the bottom. Attach it to the end link on one of your attached chains. Close the hoop back up. On the other side of your necklace, open the last link on the chain end. Place into this link the hoop at the bottom of your patina painted connector ring. Close the link back up.
-
Enjoy!

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
