Papillon Necklace

Pretty butterflies grace the front of an ornately detailed Nunn Design bezel pendant in this fetching necklace. Accenting the blue color of the center butterfly is a SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystal heart in striking Bermuda Blue.

Instructions:
NOTE: For this project I wanted to build up the bezel cavity so that the image was not so inset. I used DeCoRe epoxy clay to build up the backing, but you can also use resin, Amazing Glaze, or another filler that you might have around.
- Before starting this project, please watch the video: How to Use Crystal Clay. From what you learned in the video, mix up an approximately pea size amount of clay and then press it into your bezel setting. You want it to go almost to the top of the bezel setting but definitely not over the edge. Press it into place and try to create as flat and even of a surface as possible. Make sure that it does not obstruct the decorative rope edge of the bezel. Let cure overnight.

Take your Nunn Design butterfly collage sheet and locate the image featured in this project. Cut that image out of the main sheet and then carefully cut it down to size so that it fits on top of the epoxy clay bed and is within the confines of the decorative rope edge of the bezel setting. Spread a layer of Nunn Design glue onto the backside of the image and then flip over and glue on top of the epoxy clay in the bezel. Let dry.

Paint 3 coats of Nunn Sealant on top of your image. Let dry thoroughly.

Take your 3 feet of Nunn Design antique copper plated flat cable chain and open one of the end links (the same way you would open a jump ring) and connect it to the loop at the top of the bezel pendant. Close the link. Repeat this step with the other end of your chain, again attaching it to that loop at the top of the bezel pendant.

Take an antique copper jump ring and place onto it one of your SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystal heart pendants in Bermuda blue (colorful side down towards the head). Once the heart is on the head pin and slid to the base, bend the back of the head pin wire upwards so that it creates a 90 degree angle and sticks up between the two curves of the heart top. Create a wrapped wire loop so that it sits close to the heart crystal and then snip off excess wire with flush cutters.

Look at your pendant and chain. On one side of the chain, starting from the point where the chain connects to the pendant via the loop, count 3 chain links. Open this third chain link, don't let any of the chain length slip off, and slip your heart dangle that you made in the previous step onto the link (via the wrapped wire loop). Close the chain link.

Variations
Try making this pretty necklace in a different metal finish. When substituting in items, pay attention to sizes and styles to make sure all your pieces will fit together.

Tip: Check package quantities for each component. You may have extra material to make more than one finished project, or will have leftovers for other projects. In some cases, adding on just one more package of a component may be all you need to make multiple pieces.
