Amethyst
Long prized for its unique purple color, Amethyst ranks high among semi-precious gemstones. It is a variation of Quartz and gets its purple color from the presence of iron in the mineral. It is found lining the inside of Geodes ~ big hollow rocks. When the geodes are cut open, they reveal a glittering purple fantasy world of Amethyst crystals! The ancient Greeks believed Amethyst would prevent them from becoming drunk, and they made drinking vessels from Geodes. Well, it didn’t work, but they didn’t care. The clarity, color, and location of origin determine its worth, but its true value is always in the heart of the wearer.
BIRTHSTONE: Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for the month of February.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: Amethyst is the accepted gem for the 6th wedding anniversary.
