Aquamarine Beryl Family Sister Stone

Aquamarine

A member of the Beryl family and sister stone to the Emerald and Ruby, this stone received its name from the ancient Greek fishermen who believed it protected them from the dangers of the sea. Directly translated, Aquamarine means “Water of the Sea” and its blue-green color and the clarity of higher quality stones bring forth images of the Aegean. In addition to being a traditional birthstone, Aquamarine is also the stone that represents the 19th wedding anniversary. Aquamarine remains one of the more popular semi-precious gemstones used in jewelry, and is often reserved for the finer pieces.

BIRTHSTONE: Aquamarine is the modern birthstone for the month of March and an alternate birthstone for the month of October.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: Aquamarine is the accepted gem for the 19th wedding anniversary.
