Labradorite
Labradorite is one of the true beauties of the mineral world. Although the brown blue stone may not show itself off at first glance, when held at the proper angle, labradorite can produce a colorful play of blue to green light across cleavage planes and in sliced sections known as “labradorescence”. This is also sometimes referred to as “flash”.
Labradorescence is truly a one of a kind mineralogical experience and must be observed in person in order to truly appreciate its beauty.
Named after the Canadian peninsula from which the earliest specimens were found.
