Hi. I'm Andrea, Beadaholique.com's senior designer. Today I'm going to talk about the different varieties of knots in jewelry making and I'm going to show you how to use them. The first knot to talk about today is just the Simple Knot. The Simple Knot, almost everybody knows how to do this. You just take the two ends of your cord cross them. Put one end through the loop and you tie. That's the Simple Knot also known as Overhand Knot. The next knot is the Double Knot or the Square Knot. You start with a Simple Knot. You're just going to make another one on top of that. Then you pull tight. That's a Double or a Square Knot. The third knot is called a Surgeon's Knot. Once again you begin with a Simple Knot. You go through one more time. Then you make another Simple Knot on top of that and you pull tight. That's the Surgeons Knot. All three of those knots are very helpful when finishing bracelets or necklaces or beadwork. The next two knots that I'm going to talk about can be used in conjunction. The first one is called a Lark's Head Knot. Lark's Head Knot is most commonly used for hanging donut pendants or any kind of pendant with a large hole in the middle. You're going to double up your cord and you're gonna insert the center of the cord, the loop, through the center of the donut. You're going to bring the other part of your cord through that loop and you're going to pull tight. And that's a Lark's Head Knot. Now to finish this necklace, you can use a Sliding Knot on the other end in place of a clasp. To do that overlap the two ends of your cord about four or five inches. And you're basically going to make a Simple Knot around the opposite side of the cord. So you take one end, you go around and you're just going to tie a Simple Knot. Then you're going to do the same on the other side. You're going to pull tight. Now you can pull on either side of the necklace to tighten those two knots. Now it's adjustable. And that's a Sliding Knot. Go to Beadaholique.com for all of your beading supply needs!
