The subtle pink and green color palette of this necklace focal calls to mind temperate climates and budding blooms. The design features one peyote stitched Carrier bead paired with a cultured sea glass pendant, suspended on textured cable chain with brass accent beads.

Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

These instructions will make a 20 inch necklace. To adjust the size, choose your desired length of chain. Note: for a longer necklace, you will need to purchase more chain.

If you are new to peyote bead weaving, please watch the video: How to Flat Even-Count Peyote Stitch.
Based on what you have learned in the video, and using the bead pattern chart provided, stitch your bead swatch. You will need 40 inches of thread. For the Carrier bead, your peyote wrap will be 24 rows long and 6 beads wide.
Next, please watch the video: How to Cover a Carrier Bead in Peyote Bead Weaving. In this video, you will learn how to zip up your peyote strip and how to attach it to the Carrier bead. Do this for your bead.
Cut 2 inches of 24 gauge wire and create a simple wire loop. Slide a 3mm metal bead onto the wire so it rests near the loop. Feed the wire through one of the holes of the Carrier bead. Once it exits, slide on another 3mm metal bead and create a simple wire loop after the bead. Trim the excess wire.
Repeat the above step with another 2 inch length of wire and metal beads but this time going through the second hole of the Carrier bead.
Now use flush cutters to cut approximately 1.5 inches of chain.
Use pliers to open a simple wire loop on one side of your Carrier bead and slide on one end link of the chain. Close the loop. Repeat this step to attach the other end link of your chain to the simple wire loop directly on the opposite side of your Carrier bead.
Now slide your pinch bail over the center link of the chain you attached in the previous step, and gently squeeze the bail closed over the top hole of your cultured sea glass pendant.
Next, cut two 9 inch lengths of chain.
To hang your completed pendant, open one of the two remaining simple wire loops exiting the second hole of your Carrier bead, and slide on the end link of one of your 9 inch chain lengths. Close the loop. Repeat this step to attach chain to the opposite side of your necklace.
To attach your clasp, open a 4mm jump ring and slide on the open end link of one of your chains from the above step. Also slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring.
Open another jump ring and slide on the end link of the chain on the other side of your necklace. Close the jump ring. Enjoy!
