Retired - Butterfly Bottle Cap Necklace

1. Note: if you want to use glitter, pick some up before starting this project. Any color you like, the smaller the flakes, the more delicate the overall look.
2. Flatten a bottle cap using a rubber mallet and steel bench block.
3. Remove the liner from the bottle cap.
4. Take your metal hole punch pliers and punch a hole at the top of your bottle cap, inside the "ruffles".
5. Pick a butterfly from your collage sheet. You will want to use an image that is at least 1" in diameter. Cut out the image. To get the right size circle, you can either use something which is around 1" in diameter such as US quarter (just a smidge smaller then 1") or I used a 1" metal stamping blank. You can also trace around the edge of your bottle cap and then cut your circle down until it fits inside.
6. Coat the entire backside of your image with a layer of Nunn glue. Press into the center of your flattened bottle cap, use your fingers to smooth out any air bubbles. Let dry.
7. Using a paint brush, paint a layer of Mod Podge over the top of your image. Let dry and clean out your paint brush.
8. Using a toothpick or piece of wire as an applicator, run a thin line of Nunn glue along the interior edge of your bottle cap, all the way around the circle. Immediately shake glitter over the glue. Let dry and then shake and blow off any loose glitter. If you need to "dust" off your image to get any glitter off the center of the image, just do so with a dry paint brush or your fingers.
9. Fill your bottle cap bezel with Gel du Soleil. Do not overfill. Let settle for a few minutes to see if any bubbles rise to the surface. If bubbles arise, use a heat source such as a micro torch to remove them (just swipe the heat source over the top, not touching and not standing still). Place in the UV light for 15 minutes.
10. Remove your bottle cap from the UV light. Open a 6mm jump ring and link it through the punched hole at the top of your bottle cap. Close the jump ring.
11. Take your ball chain and cut it to the desired length. You can leave the chain uncut at 2 feet, making your necklace 24" long or you can cut it shorter, it's up to you.
12. Place a ball chain connector clasp on one end of the necklace. If you want to close the necklace, just link the other end of the ball chain through the connector clasp.
